Living In: Amelie

Amelie is quirky, romantic French film that I love more and more each time I watch it. Audrey Tautou is so enchanting and artists from Michael Sowa to Aline Bonetto create a feast for the eyes. Tying it all together is the fabulous music score by Yann Tiersen…you must give it a listen.

“Without you, today’s emotions would be the scurf of yesterday’s.”

Cinnamon.

from womensday.com:

“Banish bad breath with cinnamon. This spice—along with other herbs and spices such as basil, wasabi and cilantro—kills bacteria that grow on your tongue and in the back of your mouth, contributing to unpleasant odors. Sprinkle cinnamon onto your yogurt or cereal daily.”

I’ve started putting cinnamon in my coffee, which is delicious…but may defeat the purpose of bad breath killing because of my super intense coffee breath. Ha. Anyways, this is an interesting idea, I’m going to start putting it in my yogurt for sure!

Empty Spaces.

“All changes are more or less tinged with melancholy, for what we are leaving behind is part of ourselves.”

-Amelia Barr

In my less poetic words, I hate to see some of my favorite people leaving my house. I hate the echo I’m starting to hear in the increasingly empty spaces.

Downpour Brandi Carlile

I’m like the rain in a downpour
I wash away what you long for
And I wave goodbye with the sun in my eyes
I wish I could be there tonight.

Cuddles N' Cupcakes.

An inspiration compilation for Laura’s future Bed & Breakfast, complete with plenty of gardens, puppies, pastries, and tea times.

See, Laura thought just because it was late in the evening and I was a bit delirious that I might be kidding about all of this. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

How To Feel Like a Lady (for little expense).

1. Bubble Baths.: I’ve been taking them late at night before bed for at least twenty minutes so my skin is perfectly soaked and soft after. I of course have candles and a cup of peach roobois tea. The latest addition to my bath routine:

Aveeno Stress Relief Foaming Bath in Lavender. Only $6. Delightful.

2. Satin Robe.: I bought this lovely ivory short satin robe at Tjmaxx for $15 and it makes me feel lovely every time I put it on. I seriously do whatever I can in it: dishes, cleaning my fish bowl, laundry. It enhances every tedious experience. But I have vowed to never step outside in it. Robes and nighties are just for me and not for the whole world to see!

3. Jazz Music. : Nothing puts me in a swanky lady mood like jazz music. Get a hold of some Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Bessie Smith, and Nina Simone for your oldies and try Norah Jones and Jamie Cullum for more current jazz. If you message me, I’ll totally share some music with you!

4. Magazines & Books: When I refer to magazines, I don’t mean the kind of beauty magazines that feel your head with filth and desires for frankly, unnecessary trifles. I recently started buying Self magazine. It has great articles on how to feel healthy and happy and deeply appreciate the skin you’re in. It makes me feel feminine, uplifted, and inspired.

        ($2.99 per issue.)

For books, I recommend The Little Black Book of Style by Nina Garcia or How To Be Lovely: The Audrey Hepburn Way Of Life by Melissa Helstern. Both instruct a woman how to appreciate her unique self and others with grace, style, confidence, and goodness. You can get them at the library for free or buy them on amazon for $4-10.
